Energies of Interconnection: Actors, Spaces, and Narratives in Eastern Europe

The DFG Research Group 5856, “Energy Entanglements: Actors, Spaces, and Narratives in Eastern Europe,” understands energies as multifunctional drivers of cultural, political, social, and economic development dynamics. At the heart of its work are negotiations surrounding the extraction, circulation, and use of energy, which are linked to profound transformations of living environments. The research network examines the resulting challenges with a focus on Eastern Europe while also taking neighboring regions into account. This is because, despite its immense significance as a producer and transit region for energy, as well as a theater of escalating energy conflicts, the region has so far  played only a minor role in the Energy Humanities.
